Investigating the potential issues within the rural disabled population presents a challenging research endeavor. This demographic often encounters multiple difficulties at social, economic, and cultural levels, and their issues in rural areas tend to be more concealed compared to urban settings. Challenges faced by rural disabled individuals are often constrained by limitations in societal awareness and information accessibility. The relatively closed social structure in rural areas may contribute to insufficient attention and awareness towards disability issues, leading to potential shortcomings in policies, resource allocation, and social support, making rural disabled individuals more susceptible to neglect.
The rural disabled population confronts limited employment opportunities and educational resources, rendering them more prone to becoming marginalized, trapped in poverty, and subjected to social exclusion. Due to the underdeveloped labor market and educational system in rural areas, disabled individuals face greater difficulties in acquiring knowledge and participating in socioeconomic activities. Furthermore, the rural disabled population may encounter issues related to insufficient medical resources. The less advanced medical facilities in rural areas compared to urban centers may restrict disabled individuals in accessing necessary treatment and rehabilitation services, impacting not only their quality of life but also potentially exacerbating their disability status.
Cultural beliefs and societal biases could negatively impact the lives of rural disabled individuals. Traditional perspectives and stereotypical notions about disabilities may result in societal discrimination and exclusion, making it more challenging for them to integrate into the community.
